This AIR802® passive power-over-Ethernet (PoE) gigabit splitter and injector device are compliant with the IEEE 802.3at/af Mode B standard. It has 5.5 x 2.1 mm size DC connectors. It will also provide superior operation for 10 Mbps 10BASE-T and 100 Mbps 100BASE-TX in addition to the gigabit (1000 Mbps) 1000BASE-T operations. AIR802 engineers designed the internal wire construction with solid copper, 24 AWG wire. It utilizes shielded connectors with an internal drain wire. A green LED indicates presence of voltage.

Basic Power-Over-Ethernet (PoE) Information
 
PoE offers great cost savings and flexibility in deploying equipment, particularly since no AC power outlet may be available where the powered equipment is to be located. PoE allows the Ethernet network cable to carry the DC voltage from the injector potentially to 328 feet away from where AC outlets are located to where the powered equipment is located.
 
The IEEE 802.3at/af standards defines the operation of power-over-Ethernet. There are two modes, mode A and mode B. The power is carried over different conductors in mode A versus mode B. 
 
An important engineering note is that before implementing your network application that you consider voltage drop, which is the loss of voltage from the source to destination. The amount of loss will depend on a number of variables including the length, wire conductor size, etc. If your application is a low voltage, for example 5vdc, the loss can be critical. At higher voltages, i.e., 24vdc or 48vdc, the loss will be less affecting.
