The AIR802® AP-G250 is a wireless router that brings new experience to WiFi performance. This WiFi router is a new addition to our very powerful, popular and reliable wireless access points and wireless routers. This model is the best wireless router for those seeking powerful strong signal for excellent connectivity and serious features and capabilities. Whether you need basic functionality, a more powerful wireless router, advanced networking features or reliability you have found the right solution.
The AP-G250 can be configured through a web browser such as other common wireless devices or through Secure Shell (SSH). The are three high-level operating modes: Router, Bridge or WISP (Client) mode. The wireless function or interface can be configured as an access point to provide wireless service to wireless devices. It may also be configured under wireless distribution system (WDS), which acts as a repeater to other devices in your network via their MAC addresses. It may also be configured for simultaneous use as an access point (AP) plus WDS. Or it may be configured as a client device. As a client device, this implies that you may connect to a remote network and use the Ethernet network ports for connectivity. Yet another option is our support of Universal Repeater Mode, which allows you to connect to another network, and repeat or rebroadcast the wireless signal locally.
The AP-G250 might be plugged directly into a DSL or Cable modem. Under this scenario, it would generally be placed into Router mode, which would enable Network Address Translation (NAT). If additional Ethernet ports were required beyond our one LAN port, an low-cost Ethernet switch can be added easily. The wireless network or interface in either Router or Bridge mode could be configured to AP, AP+WDS or WDS.
Alternatively, you may plug the AP-G250 wired Ethernet interface into an existing nework device such as a wired or wireless router, switch, computer or other network device. With the AP-G250 in Bridge operational mode (which would not have NAT enabled), the wired Ethernet port would be "bridged" through to the wireless interface. This is commonly used where the AP-G250 would provide the wireless service. For acting as the wireless "hub", the wireless mode would be set to access point (AP). Another scheme might be to use AP+WDS in a house, with another AP-G250 in a detached garage out back in AP+WDS mode. The two would communicate with each other and provide service to the detached garage. This would require a power divider (RF splitter), splitting the antenna port into two ports, with an antenna on the inside and one on the outside at each building.
Or the AP-G250 can be placed in WISP operational mode with the wireless mode as AP. This enables network address translation (NAT), which is what any typical broadband router utilizes. This allows you to do a site survey, view the available networks and connect to a remote network. NAT is masquerading the IP address received from the remote end's network DHCP server and allowing you to share this one IP address amongst all of your computers. This particular scheme is popular among RV and yacht/sailboats whom are connecting to an available network. Or perhaps you just want to share Mom's high-speed connection across the street. Alternatively, you may use the AP-G250 in Bridge operational mode (which would not have NAT enabled) and Client wireless mode, which would allow you to have multiple computers all receiving their IP addresses from thre remote access point / routers DHCP server. It could be your client device in the detached garage out back connecting to an equipment router back in the house.
The AP-G250 is fully IEEE 802.11b/g standards compliant which offer a data rate up to 54Mbps (compare to a cable/dsl modem at rates less than 1Mbps to 6Mbps typical). The IEEE has not ratified the draft-802.11n specifications. This means they are subject to change. This onoing effort has been delayed multiple times over the last few years and is now not expected to be finalized for at least another year. This fact combined with our own customers informing us that they do not want to invest in a product based on a draft specification has caused us not to push this unproven technology upon unknowledgeable consumers, who at the moment are the only real parties investing in these draft products.
Tired of weak signals? Common wireless router or other devices provide a typical RF output power of 30 to 65mW. The AP-G250 by comparison provides up to 250mW of RF output power. Yes, that's right for a price in the range of typical consumer wireless routers or other devices, you can have superior, professional equipment in your home or office. The AP-G250 under tests has been found to offer significantly more range and higher data rates than any common 802.11b/g or draft 802.11n equipment on the market. Moreover, our products are known for their stability, meaning no-reboots, etc.
The AP-G250 ships with a 3dBi antenna. The connector type is a (Reverse Polarity) RP–SMA type connector. The antenna is removeable and you may purchase higher gain antennas or purchase one of our pre-made antenna cable assemblies to install a cable to an antenna outdoors.
The AP-G250 supports basic to strong security encryption techniques.
This unit will be a perfect fit for residential networks, inter-building networks, schools and educational institutions, sailboats, yachts, RV's, commercial offices.
Generally a device like this requires a strong networking background, but our customers have found that they can have their unit up and running in as little as 15 minutes through the friendly and easy to use software wizard and graphical user interface.
