This AIR802® power-over-Ethernet (PoE) kit includes an injector, 48 vdc output power supply and a power cord. The power supply provides up to 19 watts of power. This device operates under mode B of the IEEE 802.3af specifications.

Basic Power-Over-Ethernet (PoE) Information
 
PoE offers great cost savings and flexibility in deploying equipment, particularly since no AC power outlet may be available where the powered equipment is to be located. PoE allows the Ethernet network cable to carry the DC voltage from the injector possibly hundreds of feet away from where AC outlets are located to where the powered equipment is located.
 
The IEEE 802.3af standard defines the operation of power-over-Ethernet. There are two modes, mode A and mode B. Mode A was defines the voltage being carried over the same conductors in the Ethernet cable as the data information is flowing over. Mode B was defined to provide the power over the spare conductors in an Ethernet cable. Mode B is very common among wireless access points and IP cameras where 10BaseT and 100BaseT (10/100 Mbps) interfaces are used.
